From the geographic boundaries to the values and friendliness, people have debated what defines the region essentially since it was labeled the Midwest. It has taken on a renewed urgency this election year.With so much diversity in the Midwest, from the Great Lakes to the Northwoods and Columbus to Chicago, some have pushed back over the years on depictions of the region as a monolith.
